Review of North Face Rock 22 Tents
If
you need a standard weather, lightweight, and durable tent with lots of room
in it, then look no further, because the North Face Rock 22 Tent has them
all. It is designed to withstand wind and rain, and remain steadfast for a
year round of excursions. It is the smallest and lightest of TNF’s (The
North Face) base camp series.
The
Rock 22 is a three-season tent, which means that is geared for spring,
summer and autumn, and not intended for the winter months. The Rock 22 is
called as such because it can accommodate two adults (the first “2”) and it
utilizes two tent poles (the second “2”) with an updated X-tent design and
increased vestibule size that has lots of mesh for ample oscillation or
stargazing. Its floor size is wider
than a full size mattress, with measurements of 89 in. x 54 inches.
It also has an interior height of 42.5 inches and has a trail weight
of a little over five pounds.

The
tent comes with an illustrated manual for easy assembly. Just slide the two
poles onto the sleeves forming the X-tent design, which serves as the
backbone, even without attaching it to the ground. The ends of the pole fit
into rugged eye holes and it has lightweight easy-to-use clip pitch system
with two large vestibules and full-zip doors enabling easy access from both
sides. The comprehensive color-coded
pitch system includes poles, canopy, and the rain fly, making setup a
breeze.
Aside
from its well thought-out design and solid construction, one great feature
of this tent is the fully tapped bathtub floor style. The Rock 22’s seams
are elevated off the floor, creating this bathtub feature which protects the
tent from ground dampness, making it practically impossible for water to
leak in through the tent’s seams. It also has convenient overhead pockets,
gear loops, and gear attic to keep your small items organized. Another cool
feature is the easy-to-use Ball Cap clips on brow pole ends.
Though everything sounds snappy and easy, a novice would find it a little
difficult to comprehend the instructions at first glance, as it uses
expert-camper terminology and one could get lost in the technical
descriptions, especially if you’re not too familiar with what guy lines are
for. These are the lines that strap hold the rain fly to trees or staked to
the ground.
Overall, the Rock 22 is a very spacious tent with good headroom that does
not taper down to one end like the others. It is ideal for valley camping
and backpacking. It is suited
for having fun outdoors for all types of campers. It sets up in a flash and
doesn’t weigh you down, and it gives two campers plenty of room in which to
bunk.
