Crazy Tent Designs

We’re all familiar with the way tents look. From your simple canvas tents to the recent domes, these designs have been around for several years now.  Sure, they do the job pretty well, but if you’re looking for something a little more unique, you can find some nature shelters with some rather crazy designs.  It’s not all about the looks, though -- there’s a little functionality involved as well, a method to the madness.  If you want your eyes and creative juices satisfied, look no further.  There are some fairly wild creations here to sate your curiosity.

One brand that sports some funky designs is Vango.  Not all of their tents are unusual; in fact, some are actually pretty normal, but they sure do have a wide range.  They have teepees, and domes, and… well, some we’re not quite sure what to call them.  Aerodynamic is a word that comes to mind however, as the spiky look of tents such as the Ultralight 200 contribute to better ventilation, and at the same time, defense against sudden gusts of wind.

Not all tents were made for the nomad inspired, however.  Some tents are built for the city!  The car tent, for one, was designed for the home challenged.  It isn’t clear what the original purpose was, but a tent that looks like a covered car when pitched is pretty crazy in our book.  It might be a good idea too, if you feel like sleeping by the curb… well, until the meter maid comes along.  It’s probably suited for free parking.

Those inspired by tales of the unexplored West would probably be interested in this next one, as it is based on the Native American tipi.  With a name like the Treepee, you can already guess why it’s so unusual.  This was designed to be hung from a tree branch.  With this tent, you don’t have to be concerned about getting wet from under.  Make sure the guy lines and pegs are set pretty tight though, you wouldn’t want to simulate seasickness.  There’s also another tree tent designed like a boxing ball.  Seriously, who comes up with these things?  You have to admit, regardless, that these are some innovative creations.

If you want to talk functional though, the Respite tent is a single person tent that doubles as a hammock!  Its crimson outer fabric easily transforms back and forth depending on your whims.  If you feel like sleeping under the starry sky, just go into hammock mode.  If weather goes the way of the nasty, though, it just as easily switches back.  But if it’s a quick assembly that you desire, the Decathlon 2 second tent is the quickest.  Just unwrap and throw in the air, it only takes two seconds to set up this baby.  If only all tents were this simple.

Let’s face it though, some people make things just for the heck of it and the Piilo indoor tent is the perfect example.  For one, it already says indoor tent. Functionality is pretty much thrown out the window.  Futuristic meditations are not out of the question, however, as this is one truly out-of-this-world looking piece.  Check these tents out, and at the very least, you’ll have a new topic of conversation.
